UK games market worth £4 billion in 2008
The video game industry received its largest growth to date in 2008.

Figures by game chart trackers ELSPA / GFK Chart-Track show that the software market was worth £4.03 billion, against £3.4 billion in 2007, according to MCV.

Around 82 million units of software were sold, up 20% over 2007, with hardware sales up 14% against the previous year. Peripherals saw the biggest expansion, with an 82% growth.

The growth was mainly attributed to the wider, causal demographic of video games, as well as a wide array of platforms to choose from.
