Robert Bowling, the studio's director of communications, revealed the game's user figures on his semi-official blog.
Bowling said that up to January 3, 2009, 10,006,606 unique users had played the game on Xbox 360 and also connected to Xbox Live at least once.
This is in addition to the 4.38 million PS3 gamers who have joined in a multiplayer session of the title via the PlayStation Network.
Microsoft's Larry Hryb recently claimed on his blog that Call of Duty 4 was the second most played game on Xbox 360 during 2008 behind Halo 3.
