Crytek using Free Radical for consoles
Published Wednesday, Feb 18 2009, 14:16 GMT | By Matthew Reynolds
Crytek's acquisition of Free Radical Design was to strengthen their console development, it has been announced.
Managing director Anvi Yerli, one of three brothers who runs the German developer, said that the takeover of Free Radical Design was perfect for their console plans.
"Our console plans are no secret - they happened long before we thought of the acquisition of Free Radical.
"But in the end, the fact that Free Radical is very experienced with console shooters made the deal even more valuable", he told 1Up.
Despite now owning the TimeSplitters franchise, the studio said it was "just too early to say" whether the series will continue development, and it confirmed they would not be developing PC first-person shooter Crysis for consoles.
The Nottingham-based studio, now named Crytek UK, will rehire some of the 180 staff members let go last December.
