Apple files patent for Wii Remote rival
Published Monday, Mar 16 2009, 22:16 GMT | By Andrew Laughlin

According to AppleInsider, the patent filing reveals that the device would incorporate infrared sensor technology compatible with the Apple TV set-top box.
The application indicates a variety of features for the wand, including image and illustration applications, a zoom function, on-screen keyboard and other media uses.
While some experts believe this is part of a strategy to transform the device into a media server, other commentators have suggested that Apple may be be about to enter the home gaming space.
As the Wii Remote utilises similar technology, this has also led to speculation that Apple is ready to rival the Japanese gaming giant with its own Wii-style console.
