2K Marin is currently working on BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams, which is a follow up to the celebrated first-person shooter set in an underwater utopia gone badly wrong.
Speaking to American magazine Game Informer, Levine said that he is now "focused on making our next big project at 2K Boston".
"While I'm not involved in BioShock 2, I'm really excited to see what the talented team at 2K Marin, some of whom worked on the original BioShock, come up with. I can't wait to play it," he added.
Jordan Thomas, the game's creative director, recently told CVG that he has been "speaking informally" with Levine in a purely "voluntary" arrangement.
He added that Levine is "not substantially involved in BioShock 2, but we all have a ton of respect for him and [have] learned a lot".
According to the Game Informer report, the sequel will also feature multi-player options, although no further details are known as yet.
