Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust was universally panned by reviewers, receiving a score of 28 out of a possible 100 on Metacritic. Lowe was not consulted during the title's development despite the executive producer's claim that they were trying to make a game that "Al Lowe would like to play."
"All I know about BOB is what I've read online. VU (and later Activision, Team 17 and Codemasters) did not consult me nor discuss anything about this game with me. In fact, they've expressed no interest in me whatsoever," read a post on Lowe's blog.
"For a while, I hoped that they would remember to send me a review copy. Now that the reviews are in, it's just as well that they didn't!"
Box Office Bust is the second game in the series to go ahead without Lowe's involvement, following 2004's Magna Cum Laude.
