According to CVG, Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime made the statement after it was revealed that industry sales have dropped 17% in the US.
Fils-Aime's claims support rumours that there is a major Nintendo game in the works, which is likely to be released later this year.
Despite the decline, Nintendo hardware sales still accounted for 58.4% of all units sold in the US during March, with the Wii selling 601,000 consoles in this period.
