As a film and television producer, Bruckheimer has a reputation for developing big budget projects, including the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise and TV series CSI.
Based in Santa Monica, the Jerry Bruckheimer Games studio will focus predominantly on new properties, alongside collaborations with other studios.
Former Ubisoft executive Jay Cohen and Halo 3 producer Jim Veevaert have already joined the new venture, while Viacom's MTV Games has agreed to act as publisher.
Speaking to the LA Times, Bruckheimer revealed that he was drawn to video game development due to its narrative parities with filmmaking.
He pointed out that "games are evolving just like movies", with an increasing focus on storytelling and character development.
"We're in the entertainment business," he added. "We entertain you in theatres, on TV and on your game platforms."
