The 2009 Ashes cricket tournament between England and Australia is being staged in the UK for the first time since 2005, when England won the trophy.
Codemasters brand manager Richard Gittins told MCV that this year's series will be "one of the most exciting in its 127-year history".
The company, who are "looking at dominating the sports gaming market", have announced plans to launch a major television advertising campaign.
Ashes Cricket 2009 will be released for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC in the summer, with a Wii version on the way later in the year.
Major stars Andrew Strauss, Kevin Pietersen and Ricky Ponting will all be playable characters in the game, while legends of the sport Shane Warne and Sir Ian Botham will provide a series of technique challenges.
