Despite historically only stocking a limited selection of games and consoles, the company now intends to beef up its software and hardware presence.
This follows news that the firm will invest £6 million to create 30 new stores dedicated to its home and electrical lines, with the first opening in Poole this October.
John Lewis' product development manager for entertainment systems Tom Smith said that gaming has moved from the "bedroom to the lounge" over the past 24 months, particularly due to Nintendo's push on the family market.
Smith revealed that gaming has been a focus for the company over the past 12 months, including building relations with hardware and software suppliers to provide a "coherent assortment".
He also admitted that the company is not quite there yet, but will be a "lot closer before Christmas", with the aim to be well placed to take part in this "very exciting and rapidly changing market".
