Analyst predicts major E3 announcements

Macquarie Research analyst David Gibson has predicted that all the current platform holders will make major announcements at next week's E3 Expo.

The industry expert suggested that Sony will take the opportunity to unveil its successor to the PSP, which is rumoured to have a touch screen and no UMD slot. He also said that he anticipates the showcasing of a slim PS3 costing $399 (£250).

New Microsoft hardware is expected to be on display, with the Xbox 360's motion camera controller and accompanying software tipped to appear at the conference.

Gibson concluded that a hardware announcement from Nintendo is unlikely, but did predict the announcement of new Mario and Zelda titles for the Wii, along with the unveiling of Wii Fit Plus.

The E3 Expo runs from June 2 to 4 at the Los Angeles Convention Centre.
