Speaking at the E3 Expo, the series creator announced that significant work has already taken place on new instalment, with a view to releasing the game some time in 2010.
"To be honest, I really wanted to show off a new Zelda at this E3. However, rather than bring you something, we wanted to focus on development," he said.
"Obviously, graphics have improved, but as a team, we've been sitting down to look at the gameplay and what we can do with it to move Zelda forward."
Miyamoto went on to outline his ideas for its gameplay, explaining that the new title could heavily revolve around memories and players' individual perceptions. It was also revealed that the developers have incorporated so much Wii MotionPlus support that the device could be essential to play the game.
Concept art for the new title was unveiled, bearing a graphical resemblance to 2006's Twilight Princess.
A new DS adventure The Legend Of Zelda: Spirit Tracks was showcased at E3, though no release date was given.
