Pietersen will be the title's cover star as well as a playable character alongside the likes of Australia captain Ricky Ponting.
The game will feature full recreations of England's major cricket grounds and commentary from Ashes legends Sir Ian Botham and Shane Warne.
Pietersen said that he is "delighted" to be involved with the "official game" of this year's England versus Australia series.
"The game looks fantastic and I'm sure both England and Australia fans are going to relish the opportunity to take part in a virtual Ashes series," he commented.
"Representing your country in the Ashes is a huge honour and I can't wait for it to start."
Ponting added: "I think it's going to be massive. There [will be] guys all over the world playing against each other trying to recreate us playing against England at grounds like Lords."
Ashes Cricket 2009 will be released for PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Wii on August 28.
