Film producer sues Midway over 'MK' rights
Bankrupt publisher Midway is facing legal action over the film rights to the Mortal Kombat franchise.

Film producer Lawrence Kasanoff - responsible for the Mortal Kombat movies - has filed a lawsuit in order to retain the intellectual property rights to adapt the series for film and television should Midway be sold.

Warner Bros is the forerunner to purchase the company after tabling a $33 million (£20 million) bid earlier this year, an agreement which includes the Mortal Kombat licence.

The lawsuit states that no legislation is in place to protect Kasanoff's rights to the series, which could result in their unjust loss in the event of a Midway buyout.

The producer claims that he is responsible for taking Mortal Kombat out of the arcades and making its characters the household names that they are today.
