According to the latest retail data compiled by the firm, total UK sales of the educational game have now passed three million copies.
However, the title has only managed to position seventh on the roster of top-selling games so far in 2009.
In a list dominated by Nintendo's products, top spot went to Wii Fit, followed by Wii Play in second and Mario Kart Wii in third, with all three games cumulatively selling 1.65 million copies.
Professor Layton And The Curious Village came in fourth place, ahead of Sega's Mario And Sonic At The Olympic Games in fifth.
ELSPA director general Michael Rawlinson told the website that these sales figures are "clear evidence" of the shift in video gaming to a more mainstream audience.
"The demographic has changed, so it's time we did away with the misperception that video games are merely the preserve of teenage boys shooting zombies," he said.
"Innovation in the industry means the social and educational benefits of gaming are now enjoyed by players of both sexes and of all ages."
