The crossover fighter, released in 2008, was originally intended to receive regular updates, including new playable character and arenas.
Boon confirmed that one of the additional characters he intended to include was the sorcerer Quan Chi, who appears in the game's cut-scenes.
The creator posted a picture of the character on his Twitter account, alongside a message confirming that he was doubtful that new fighters would appear in the game, despite the fact that they were "just about done".
Boon also confirmed that his immediate plans involve the ninth instalment in the franchise, likely to be published by Warner Interactive. "Excited about MK9 and WB, but wish we could have released DLC for MKvsDC," he added.
A release window for Mortal Kombat 9 is yet to be established.
