According to pop culture site CC2K, the film will follow the original game's plot "slavishly", with the exception of the ending.
The script, which has been written by David Self, sees Kratos make a deal with god of war Ares to become Ancient Greece's champion warrior.
After Ares tricks Kratos into murdering his wife, Kratos, with the aid of the goddess Athena, vows to gain revenge and searches for and subsequently uses the power of Pandora's Box.
However, while the video game saw Kratos agree to become the new god of war after throwing himself from a cliff, the movie ending sets up a sequel, with Kratos rejecting the throne and falling to his death with the words: "Your turn, Hades."
The site also comments on the film's visual style, suggesting that it will portray a "hyper realised" version of Ancient Greece, as well as revealing that it will feature all the enemies from the game.
