2K Games targets 'Borderlands' franchise
2K Games has revealed that it wants forthcoming title Borderlands to develop into a successful franchise, according to MCV.

Being developed by Gearbox, the game mixes first-person-shooter elements with RPG mechanics and co-operative play in a Mad Max-style world.

2K's UK marketing manager Simon Turner said that the publisher wants the game to "stand shoulder to shoulder" with the likes of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 when it is released later in the year.

Turner claimed that Borderlands is "an incredibly strong offering" for this Christmas because it is "slick, fast-paced, tremendously polished, and incredibly stylish". However, he also said that the title has the potential to develop into a successful franchise in the future.

"We think that Borderlands could create an entirely new genre - role-playing shooter. Think of [RPG game] Diablo in a Mad Max world and you're close," he added.

"Our goal with all new IPs across our publishing label is to create long-standing franchises."

Borderlands will be released in the UK on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on October 23.
