Ubisoft chairman Yves Guillemot is to be honoured by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) at its annual 'Nite to Unite for Kids' fundraising event, the foundation has announced.

The black-tie event, now in its twelfth year, aims to raise money for the organisation's work with young people. According to the ESA, the annual gala has raised over $11 million (£6.7 million) for children's charities to date.

"Yves saw the potential of computer and video games long before most and worked diligently to translate that vision into reality. His company, whose name is derived from 'ubiquity' in reference to their ambition to make games worldwide, has not only achieved that goal but surpassed it," said ESA president Michael Gallagher.

Previous recipients of the accolade include industry veterans George Lucas, Shigeru Miyamoto and Ken Kutaragi.

The ceremony takes place in San Francisco on October 13.
