According to Gamasutra, Kojima made the comments at the Tokyo Game Show, where he compared the new technology to the shift from 2D to 3D.
Speaking about the first time he witnessed Natal, he said: "I wanted to share my surprise to everybody... but I had to restrain myself."
He added that he wants to make "a completely innovative game [with a very new control method] that nobody has thought of in the past", but is conscious of not leaving his core fans behind in the process.
Kojima also suggested that Microsoft's new technology "has the potential to change everyone's lifestyle dramatically", adding that it could be used to monitor health, fitness and understand who we are as people.
Project Natal is due to launch in 2010.
