Speaking at this year's Tokyo Game Show, the exec revealed that the peripheral is tentatively dubbed the Wand Controller, but alternative names are currently being considered.
"There are several candidates for the name of the controller," he said. "While still undecided, those names are making their way through Sony, being run up the flagpole and getting feedback from various internal departments.
"The Sixaxis and the DualShock 3 - while great product names - are based on the actual tech," he added. "The name we pick for the Wand Controller maybe won't be so techy."
Yoshida refused to comment on rumours that Sony is also planning to release a Nunchuk peripheral similar to the Nintendo Wii's, adding that using the DualShock 3 as a Nunchuk is "the cheapest solution".
The PS3 motion controller will be available in spring 2010.
