It is unknown whether developer Bungie will be involved in the series beyond next year's Halo: Reach, but the platform holder has designs for it that span the next six years.
In an interview with USA Today creative director Frank O'Connor detailed the firm's plans for the series. "We do have a plan that goes out at least six years," he said.
The exec added that he feels obliged to tie up the loose ends that remained following the conclusion of Halo 3. "I think that [the Master Chief's] fate, Cortana's fate and the identity of that giant, dark planet at the ending are probably big mysteries that would be irritating if they were just cliffhangers," he explained.
It was previously announced that latest entry in the series Halo 3: ODST sold 2.5 million units in its first two weeks. Halo: Reach will be released in autumn 2010.
