Namco Bandai reveals 'Inversion'

Namco Bandai has revealed details of its upcoming third-person shooter Inversion.

Due to arrive on PS3 and Xbox 360 next year, the game is in development at TimeShift studio Saber Interactive. Its storyline takes place during an alien invasion, with players taking control of either a hot-headed police officer or his neighbour.

A special Grappler weapon will be employed throughout the game to ward off enemies and manipulate gravity. "Grappler can be used in countless combat situations by maneuvering massive objects as shields or projectiles, and moving camped enemies out of concealed cover so they can be blasted away," Namco Bandai explained.

"The Grappler is also a key tool for tactical situations and puzzle solving as players can lift, move, or create cover objects."

Powered by the Havok Destruction engine, the game is said to break new ground in demolition physics. "We are doing things in Inversion that most people didn't think possible on the current generation of consoles," said Saber CEO Matthew Karch.

Inversion will be released for PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2010.
