'Doom Classic' arrives on iPhone
Published Sunday, Nov 1 2009, 10:36 GMT | By Mark Langshaw

The game appeared on the App Store last night to coincide with Halloween. It is priced at £3.99, or $6.99.
According to director John Carmack, this is a more significant undertaking than the studio's Wolfenstein 3D port. "Wolfenstein 3D Classic was a quickie project to satisfy my curiosity and test the iPhone waters, but Doom is a more serious effort," he said.
"In addition to the millions of people with fond memories of the game, there is still an active gaming/development community surrounding the original Doom, and I don't want to disappoint any of them."
All three episodes from the 1993 original are featured, along with the bonus chapter 'Thy Flesh Consumed'. There are three customisable control schemes to choose from, and local multiplayer is supported via wi-fi.
Online multiplayer mode is expected to be added at a later date.
