HMV: 'MW2 stock still to be sent out'
HMV has dismissed claims that it has posted copies of Modern Warfare 2 days before the game's release.

It is believed that a number of customers who pre-ordered the title from its website have received emails stating that the game has been shipped.

However, the retailer has since come forward to clarify that these messages are incorrect alerts.

"Some customers may have received an email alert suggesting that the dispatch process is under way, but the stock has not yet been sent," an HMV spokesperson told Eurogamer.

"Fulfilling orders will obviously be a major undertaking, and in order to implement this in a timely manner, we have had to initiate the transaction process to begin printing off address labels."

They added: "This has triggered the email alert, but stock has not been shipped. HMV would never knowingly break a street date."

It is unknown how online stores will treat the release in light of ongoing postal strikes.

Modern Warfare 2 will be released on November 10 for 360, PS3 and PC.
