In an interview with ONM, the Nintendo exec said that he is hoping to surprise fans with the next edition of the classic adventure game.
"It is something we used to talk about with Mr Miyamoto, and he and I agree that if we are following the same structure again and again, we might not be able to give long-time Zelda fans a fresh surprise," he said.
"So we have been trying something new in terms of the structure of the Wii version of the new Zelda game this time. I am really hopeful that people will be surprised with the changes we have implemented for this Wii version."
Aonuma also revealed that the studio is hoping to showcase the game at next year's E3 Expo. Concept art for the title was shown at this year's convention.
Link's next Wii outing was originally thought to be targeted for release next year. However, Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime recently revealed that the firm had "not committed to Zelda for 2010".
