'Call Of Duty' MMO in the works?
Rumours are intensifying that the Call Of Duty franchise could be turned into a massively multiplayer online (MMO) game.

According to the Los Angeles Times, a source close to publisher Activision claimed that an MMO adaptation is currently being discussed by the firm.

Despite Infinity Ward and Treyarch previously developing all games in the series, the report said that a mystery third studio will handle the development.

Speculation about a possible Call Of Duty MMO has gained further credence following Activision chief financial officer Tom Tippl's recent comments about monetisation options in the firm's major properties.

Tippl said that imposing additional charges for online play is "definitely an aspiration" for the publisher, and more developments on this should be expected shortly.

In its first five days of release, Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 generated over $550 million (£333.9m) in revenue worldwide, putting it on par with most Hollywood blockbusters.
