Despite coming out in November, the title shifted a total of 11.86 million copies worldwide, according to Eurogamer.
It sold 8.82m in the US, 2.8m in the UK and 237,000 copies in Japan.
The remaining games in the top five were all Wii titles developed and published by Nintendo, with Wii Sports Resort and New Super Mario Bros at second and third respectively, both selling under 8m copies.
Wii Fit Plus and Wii Fit completed the top five, selling under 6m copies each.
Despite the high figures, all regions saw a drop in overall software sales for the calendar year.
