The PSP has outsold its closest competitor by more than 30,000 units in the weekly Japanese hardware sales chart.

Sony's handheld sold 64,808 copies in the week ending March 7, ahead of the Nintendo Wii by nearly 31,000.

According to CVG, sales were boosted by the release of the "blossom pink" PSP, which ensured that Sony's machine enjoyed a sales increase of 27,480 models.

The Wii sold 33,880, which was down on the previous week, while the PS3 saw a slight increase with 28,824.

Nintendo's handhelds occupied the next three spots, with the DSi LL, DSi and DS Lite selling 23,611, 15,017 and 4,316 units respectively.

The Xbox 360 sold 2,764, above the PS2 and PSPgo, which both sold under 2,000 units each.
