Battlefield: Bad Company 2
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is to drop SecuROM authentication on PC.

Version 522175 of the game will remove the digital rights management service in favour of the one used with Valve's Steam client, as well as fixing in-game bugs and graphical glitches.

Retail users can download the patch immediately, while those who purchased the game through Steam will receive it within the next 24 hours.

SecuROM is a contested DVD copy protection tool for retail PC titles, having been included in several EA titles such as Mass Effect and Mirror's Edge.

Users gave Spore hundreds of negative scores on Amazon for including the tool in 2008.
