Switzerland has passed a new law that is likely to lead to a complete ban of violent video games.

According to MCV, the full implications of the law are not yet known, but the authorities now have the power to introduce any measures that they see fit.

The bill, which was proposed last month, called for the ban of titles that "require cruel acts of violence against humans and human-like creatures for in-game success".

It is speculated that this means titles carrying a PEGI 16+ or PEGI 18+ certificate will no longer be produced or distributed in Switzerland.

This could see games such as God Of War III, Grand Theft Auto and Call Of Duty banned from sale.
