Speaking to Gametrailers, Cage said that his next project is going to be different and very "surprising".
"I have written the next game. I have a very clear idea - it's not fully written, it's still in the synopsis stage but I have a very clear idea of where I want to go next," he explained.
"I don't just want to make some kind of sequel. I really want to continue to explore and discover new things and experiment. This is what I'm really excited about."
Cage also hinted that the game will arrive sooner than people expect.
Heavy Rain was released for the PS3 on February 26.
