Gamestation has revealed that 7,500 people signed over their soul to the company as part of an April Fool's Day experiment into whether people read terms and conditions during online purchasing.

On April 1, the video game retailer included a clause granting its customers' "immortal soul" as part of their transactions, with buyers given the chance to opt out with a tickbox and instead receive a £5 discount voucher and entry into a competition.

Prior to the experiment, Gamestation's online general manager Steve Wind-Mozley said: "Based on an average day's trading, we expect to acquire hundreds of souls as customers continually ignore the small print."

The company later confirmed to DS that in fact 7,500 souls were "captured" as part of the prank.
