When the executive announced his departure via Twitter on April 1, the move was initially thought to be an April Fools prank.
"I know, April Fools, but yes, I have left DICE. I'm still in EA though [and] moving back to the Bay Area to be closer to family for a few years," he wrote.
This was followed by a second tweet on April 2: "[Thanks] for all the kind words [and] this wasn't an April Fools, but I'm still [at] EA [and] will always have a close relationship with my friends [at] DICE."
Rumours have suggested that Van Dyke will be working on a new Battlefield title at Visceral. However, he was quick to downplay such speculation. "Not to burst bubbles, but how does my moving to Visceral Studios in any way equal Battlefield 'Anything', it doesn't so keep guessing," he added.
Van Dyke did reveal that he is helping the studio with a "new project", but refused to divulge any further details.
