Electronic Arts and Epic Games have confirmed that new action property Bulletstorm will be released in 2011.

Developed by People Can Fly, the brand new blockbuster first-person shooter carries the slogan 'Kill with skill'.

Set in the future, Bulletstorm tells the story of a confederation protected by an elite group of mercenaries called Dead Echo.

Players become Dead Echo member Grayson Hunt, who discovers that he has been working for the wrong side and decides to take action. However, Hunt's rebellion is quashed and he is exiled to the outskirts of the galaxy with fellow mercenary Ishi Sato.

The duo will then face mutants and flesh-eating gangs on an abandoned paradise as they try to survive the planet and get revenge on the person who sent them there.

Bulletstorm's gameplay features guns and combat moves, along with a 'skillshot' system involving players performing extravagant kills to earn character upgrade points.

Commenting on the game, Epic's president Dr. Michael Capps said: "Bulletstorm is the kind of game we love to make because it's pure, unadulterated entertainment.

"People Can Fly has created a wildly fun first-person shooter that looks gorgeous running on the latest Unreal Engine 3 technology, and the 'skillshot' system is a welcome addition to the genre. We can't wait to see how everyone reacts to seeing Bulletstorm."

Bulletstorm will be released on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in 2011.
