The first generation of releases will support 'Steam Play', an initiative that will see games purchased on other platforms such as PC also playable on Mac upon release.
The first two titles released are Valve's Portal and Runic Games' Torchlight, with subsequent new titles expected every Wednesday.
"We're very excited to be bringing Torchlight to the Mac," said Runic Games co-founder Max Schaefer. "Having Steam for the Mac solves so many problems for us as a developer. We look forward to our future games coming out on the Mac as well."
Titles will also be able to take advantage of Steamworks for achievements and user settings that can be stored on an online cloud service.
