According to a survey of 19,000 people conducted in January by the NPD Group, 30% of respondents regularly played World Of Warcraft, making it the clear market leader.
In second place was RuneScape with a 10% share of MMO gaming, followed by Dungeons & Dragons Online in third with 7%, reports Massively.
After seeing an upsurge in activity following its relaunch in November 2009, DDO was able to unseat ArenaNet's Guild Wars from third, which it has held for two years.
In March, Dungeons & Dragons co-creator Gary Gygax passed away in Wisconsin aged 69 following a long battle with heart problems.
