According to a job posting on Gamasutra, the developer is recruiting for an environmental artist to work from its Redwood City base close to San Francisco.
The advert claims that the person will work on the "sequel to a major new IP at the award-winning Visceral Games, creators of Dead Space and Dante's Inferno".
It also says that the successful candidate will get a "major opportunity to contribute to a bold new franchise, heavily backed by the EA Games Label".
"The Games Label at EA is 100% committed to this IP, and the IP into film, television, comics, graphic novels, action figures, and the web," the advert continues.
"The game sequel will set new quality standards and make the franchise the world-leader in the action/melee-combat genre."
Visceral is currently deep in development work for Dead Space 2, which is scheduled for release in 2011.
However, the mystery development project could equally be Dante's Inferno 2 after the first game enjoyed strong sales of nearly one million units following its release in February.
The speculation has continued despite the fact that Dante's Inferno producer Jonathan Knight revealed earlier in the year that he is not planning for a sequel to the game.
"I've read the entire Divine Comedy [which inspired Dante's Inferno] and I've given it some thought, but there are no plans [for a sequel]," he told The Escapist.
