'Killzone 2' awarded Ivor Novello

Killzone 2
Guerilla Games' Killzone 2 has been handed an Ivor Novello award for its original score.

The first-person shooter saw off competition from Savage Moon: Waldgeist and Empire: Total War to earn the first video game prize in the Ivors' history.

"The Ivors has always sought to reflect the ever-changing world of song-writing and composing," said Mark Fishlock, director of the Ivors Committee. "The video games market has matured beyond recognition and big budget orchestral scores are regularly being commissioned."

Introduced by the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors in 1955, the Ivor Novello Awards are considered to be one of the most prestigious accolades in the music industry.

Killzone 2 and its composer Joris de Man were unveiled as the winners of the coveted prize during a ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Thursday.
