As well as showcasing new titles through videos and playable demos last week at E3, a non-interactive show reel showed a variety of classic 8-bit and 16-bit titles with basic pop-up 3D effects.
The titles on show included Mega Man 2, Castlevania, Urban Champion, Kid Icarus, Yoshi's Island, Smash Ping Pong, Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros., Tennis, The Legend of Zelda, Metroid and Mystery of Murasame Castle.
Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime told Kotaku that the titles would be coming to the system but not as remakes, hinting at a Virtual Console-style downloadable service.
A report last week suggested that the device will support software installation for retail titles.
The 3DS was revealed at the company's press conference at E3 2010.
