Developed by Phoenix Online Studios, the game has been billed as one of the most ambitious fan projects of all time.
The free-to-download episodic release will tie in with the original Sierra series, having players assume control of King Graham as he travels to the Land of the Green Isles to rid his children of a mysterious curse.
The game was previously thought to be in jeopardy following reports that Activision had taken legal action against the studio to veto its use of the King's Quest license.
Episode one 'What Is Decreed Must Be' will be available to download from July 10. Subsequent chapters will be released throughout 2010.
