Speaking to DS at gamescom, Yoshinori Kitase revealed tentative plans to expand the series on to the home platform if the portable iteration is successful.
"Obviously it depends how successful this game is, but if it is successful, we have the idea to extend the series for PS3," he said.
Billed as a spinoff of the Parasite Eve series, the game sees protagonist Aya Brea battling hordes of monsters in Manhattan. Players will have the ability to swap bodies with other characters using the 'Overdrive' mechanic.
The 3rd Birthday arrives in Japan this winter. It will be released in Europe and North America in 2011.
