Sources have told Joystiq that the revamp will feature new art assets, an updated control scheme and online co-operative play.
It will be developed by Saber Interactive, who had worked on TimeShift and upcoming third-person shooter Inversion.
The title will support a resolution of 1080p and 3D visuals, but it will not be running on the Halo: Reach engine.
It is also scheduled for a November 15 release date to tie in with the ten year anniversary of the Xbox original.
Last year, it was reported that a remake of the 2001 Xbox title would be developed by 343 Industries.
