Hollywood jobs website The Agency Online has listed a series of roles for a title named Rush, which is believed to be a codename for the project, according to Superannuation.
The claim was further backed up by an online resume that notes Rush is published by Take 2 Games.
The title would be set in a modern day Los Angeles, featuring characters including a "weed evangelist", "FPS playing gamer son", a Welsh monk and a soccer mum.
However, Rockstar Games has yet to announce the follow-up to 2008's Grand Theft Auto IV.
