Sony has denied a report which suggested that the Next Generation Portable would be delayed following last month's earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

The firm told the Wall Street Journal that the comments from Sony Computer Entertainment of America were "wrong".

"So far we see no impact from the quake on our launch plan," said company spokesperson Satoshi Fukuoaka.

SCEA president Jack Tretton had said that the disaster could be "the straw" that leads to just a single region seeing the device before the end of the year.

Before last month's earthquake, it was rumoured that the NGP was going to be released in Europe on November 11.

Earlier this week it was also announced that UK managing director Ray Maguire is leaving Sony after 17 years.
