At GDC, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata confirmed a Super Mario game was in development for the 3DS, showing screenshots during his keynote speech.
In a recent interview, Miyamoto told French site Gamesblog.fr: "I promise to do all I can to deliver the new Mario game this year."
Super Mario for 3DS is currently under development by Nintendo EAD Tokyo, the same studio responsible for both Super Mario Galaxy games on the Wii.
A full reveal for the game is scheduled for E3 in June.
