3DS reclaims top spot on Japanese chart

The 3DS has reclaimed the top spot on the Japanese hardware chart from the PSP.

Media Create figures for the week ending April 17 confirmed that the Nintendo platform shifted 28,252 units in the territory, compared to the Sony system's 23,846, VG247 reports.

The shift sees the 3DS end the PSP's three-week reign at the summit of the chart. However, the PSP dominated the software chart once again, claiming nine slots in the top 20.

Bandai Namco's new release Dai-2-Ji Super Robot Taisen Z: Hakai-hen was the week's bestseller with 307,019 units shifted, followed by another debuting PSP title Pro Baseball Spirits 2011 on 86,486.

3DS games accounted for four of the top 20. Pilotwings Resort was the platform's highest placed entry with 26,554 units sold.

The PS3 was the bestselling home console of the week, moving 22,265 units. The Wii managed 8,122, while the Xbox 360 narrowly outsold the PS2, shifting 1,898 units compared to the previous generation machine's 1,261.
