Nintendo president Satoru Iwata told investors that a 3DS video service would provide content to appeal to a wider market.
"In particular, we need to enhance the contents which can be enjoyed passively by non-active users, like a 3D video distribution service," Iwata said. "We will promptly work on this after the currently planned hardware update."
A system update is currently planned for May that will launch the eShop, providing 3DSWare and Virtual Console games to the Nintendo 3DS.
In the same call to investors, Iwata revealed that Excitebike would be available as a free download when the eShop launches.
