A 2011 release date was announced for the title earlier this year, following speculation that EA planned to unleash the game in September.
However, the game has since slipped from EA's release schedule, with the firm admitting that there was an "outside possibility of a January launch".
Speaking to CVG, EA's Frank Gibeau said: "We're holding the date for two reasons - first, we don't want to tip off the competition, [and] second, we want more data from the beta test to guarantee a spectacular experience at launch."
The news comes after developers Bioware announced that Mass Effect 3 has been pushed back until early 2012.
Bioware previously worked on the Knights of the Old Republic series, which is also set in the Star Wars universe.
