Sources have told Develop that the system's controller will feature a front-facing camera that will be used for in-game images.
The same source confirmed several other recent rumours surrounding the controller, including a six-inch touch-screen and traditional buttons.
It was also speculated that the Nintendo 3DS would act as a replacement controller since many of its input devices are similar.
"The functions are the same," they said. "It is a standard wireless controller added with a front-facing camera and touch-screen.
"That sounds far too much like a 3DS to me. But I can't confirm this, Nintendo is being very cautious about the details."
It was added that the firm hasn't shown the console to certain development partners in an attempt to reduce leaks.
Recently, Ubisoft called the system "fantastic", while Tecmo Koei announced it was developing a number of launch titles.
The firm will present its next home console, codenamed Project Cafe, at E3 next month.
